The Cyprus Biological Society (CBS) has established the “Christos Georgiades” Undergraduate Biology Student Award. The Award is contested by Cypriot students (holders of the identity of the Republic of Cyprus) of Biology studying in the Biology Departments of Cyprus, Greece and abroad. The Undergraduate Biology Student Award “Christos Georgiades” is awarded annually to the Cyprus Undergraduate Biology Student with the best Diploma / Degree Thesis.

Rationale for Establishing the CBS Award for Undergraduate Biology Students “Christos Georgiades”:

The Biological Society of Cyprus (CBS) has placed excellence as one of its core values. In establishing this award, it wishes to reward the Cypriot undergraduate / Biology student with the best undergraduate / diploma thesis and to give impetus to the development of outstanding Diploma / Degree Thesis in any field of Biology.

Starting a young Biologist Scientist’s career with an Award is a boost and a reward.

Dr. Christos Georgiades, a Biologist, has been a former President of the Cyprus Biological Society (CBS) for many years and is one of the founders of the subject of Biology in the Cyprus education system. As an Inspector of Biology / Geography, as a Chief Education Officer but also as a Member of the Education Service Committee he was instrumental in establishing the Biology sector in Cyprus education.

Terms, Eligibility Criteria, Applications and Deadlines will be announced by the Cyprus Biological Society (CBS) below.

Terms and Conditions for participation:

  1. The candidate must be an undergraduate student (or recently a graduate) from the Department of Biology of Cyprus, Greece or abroad that provides a Bachelor’s degree.
  2. The candidate must be an identity holder of the Republic of Cyprus.
  3. The year of completion and / or publication of the thesis should be only the previous year of the date of announcement of the awards, that is, for the proclamation of 2020, only the work of 2019 can be accepted. The year of completion and / or publication of the thesis should be written on the cover or inside the thesis.
  4. The grade of the thesis should be 10/10 or 20/20 or 5/5 or with distinction and in any case the maximum grade of each grading system (full marks). The verified grade must be submitted together with the application form.
  5. The thesis and all relevant forms must be submitted within the pre-determined limits and before the Closing Date.
  6. Candidates can automatically apply to register as Prospective Members of the Cyprus Biological Society (CBS) before the deadline for submission of the application.
  7. Candidates must present themselves in person (or in exceptional cases their representative) and receive the award at the Official Award Ceremony organised by the Cyprus Biological Society (CBS).
  8. The Cyprus Biological Society (CBS) reserves the right to display and present all the candidate undergraduate works submitted (after the Official Award Ceremony) as well as photos and videos of the candidates and those present at the Official Award Ceremony, on its website and in the media. g.
  9. Participation automatically means acceptance of the Terms and Conditions.
  10. In case no diploma theses are submitted with a degree / diploma thesis as described in Point 4 (maximum marks), then theses with grades of at least: 9.5 / 10 or 19/20 or 4.75 / 5 may also be evaluated. For this reason, theses with these grades (9.5 / 10 or 19/20 or 4.75 / 5) should also be submitted, so that they become available for evaluation.

Evaluation criteria:

  1. The scientific excellence of the thesis (grades 1-5)
  2. The quality and scientifically accepted method of writing, organising and presenting the thesis (grades 1-5)
  3. The number and quality of scientific publications / presentations at scientific conferences that may have arisen because of the undergraduate work (grades 1-5)
  4. Originality and Innovation of the thesis (grades 1-5)

  3. Undergraduate work without a name without showing the name of the candidate and author of the thesis such as name, author’s last name, contact details, etc. (To be submitted in pdf format. The file should be named as follows: 3. Work_No name_A Keyword_ Year of publication /writing_Master.pdf)
  4. Application for the Submission of a CBS Award for Undergraduate Students of Biology v1 of the thesis (To be submitted in pdf format. The file should be named as follows: 4. Description_Surname of candidate_A Keyword_Year of publication/writing_Master.pdf)
  5. The official grade of the thesis (To be submitted in pdf format. The file should be named as follows: 5. Grade_Surname of candidate_A Keyword_Year of publication/writing_Master.pdf)
  6. Any other supporting material deemed necessary such as publications/presentations at a scientific conference. (To be submitted in pdf format. The file(s) to be named as follows: 6.
